About Copper
Copper (Cu) was the first metal ever worked by humans โ copper beads from Anatolia date back to 8700 BC โ and it remains the second-best electrical conductor after silver, at a fraction of the cost. Analysts often call it "Doctor Copper" because its price reliably tracks global industrial activity.
The energy transition has turned copper into a strategic metal: an electric vehicle uses roughly 4ร more copper than a gasoline car, and a single offshore wind turbine can contain 8 tonnes of it. Demand from EV charging, grid upgrades and data-center construction is reshaping the long-term price floor.

Main uses
- Electrical wiring, power cables and motor windings
- Electric vehicles, charging stations and renewable-energy grids
- Plumbing, roofing and architectural cladding
- Brass and bronze alloys (with zinc and tin)
- Antimicrobial surfaces in hospitals and public transit
Refined copper for the LME contract must be at least 99.9935% pure (Grade A cathode). Electrical-grade copper is Cu-ETP (99.90%), while oxygen-free Cu-OF reaches 99.99% for audio and aerospace applications.
